Speaking Brynne

Do you speak Brynne? I do. I have to. My husband doesn't speak Brynne. He has discovered this recently as I have imposed upon him more alone time with the kids. He has learned that a hamburger is really a cheeseburger. And it doesn't need to be a special "ketchup only" variety either. She likes the ketchup, mustard and even little onions. Just no pickle, but it's not worth waiting on a "special" burger to remove a single pickle. Yes, Todd learned this the hard way one day at McDonald's when I sent him to get Brynne a burger and he came out with something she wouldn't eat. A plain hamburger with ketchup only. If only he knew what a hamburger was...to Brynne.
Another Brynnespeak is "Toast with Peanut Butter". Sounds pretty simple, but when put to the test, Todd failed. As soon as he went to put the bread in the toaster, Brynne shouted, "Don't cook it!" It's a good thing I was there to explain. Toast with Peanut Butter is actually a slice of bread, straight out of the package with butter on it. Just plain butter, nothing fancy, not warmed in any way, shape or form. That is toast and peanut butter to Brynne. I have tried to explain to her what it is she was really eating. But she continues to use her own little way of saying things.
I have to get used to it myself. Just this morning she was telling me something that she wanted. We were in the kitchen, so I assumed it was food. I was wrong. What she asked for was "buttons." Okay. Buttons. "You want buttons?" I asked her. I kept trying to get her to explain what it was exactly that she wanted and finally, in a very frustrated voice, she told me, "The button jacket!" She was cold, and she wanted the button down sweater she had worn yesterday. Man, I wish I was psychic. But as it turns out, I'm just psycho. I'm still working on becoming fluent in Brynnespeak. But I hope she becomes fluent in english first!
